Program details:
Media Matters: Exploring soil-less substrates
A healthy plant
starts with a healthy root-zone and we'll explore the properties
that make a good potting-mix. Some diseases and insects may
arrive with your potting-mix so we'll talk about managing and
selecting substrates to control insect and disease pressures and
retain nutrients.Feel free to bring your own substrate sample.
Focus on Fungi: Investigate the causes of spots, wilts and
blights
We'll look at common fungal diseases of bedding plants
and perennials and see their spores and identifying features.
Prevention and management options including fungicides will
be discussed. This session will be useful to anyone on the
front lines growing plants or fielding questions from customers
Mysteries of Mites: Exploring the negative and positive
roles these creatures play in the greenhouse
You may have
heard of two-spotted spider mites but there are other pest mites
that can damage plants. Learn the significant differences in
their appearance, biology, and type of damage and how to
prevent or control them. On the plus side, some of the most valuable predators for
greenhouse biological control are mites and you'll learn how to use them effectively
The Doctor is IN
Bring in plants that have 'issues' you can't identify and our team of experts, and your
fellow growers, will diagnose what the problem might be. We'll all learn something!
