Rhizoctonia commonly causes a stem base canker on mums. During the summer of 2002, it was also found causing a foliar blight. The leaves looked as if injured by overfertilization or a phytotoxic spray. Garden mums should be grown with as little contact with field soil as possible, to eliminate the source of the common soil fungus Rhizoctonia. Many of the usual Rhizoctonia fungicides, as well as chlorothalonil-containing products, are registered for us against foliar blights.
