INSV, impatiens necrotic spot virus, can cause a wide variety of symptoms on different ornamental crops. Swedish ivy symptoms are perhaps the most frequently mis-identified, because they look more like a physical injury than like classic virus symptoms. Brown lines and spots and rings will appear in leaves of Swedish ivy infected with INSV. Monitor stock closely for the appearance of these symptoms; discard stock and replace with clean material if INSV symptoms appear. For confirmation of the virus, symptomatic leaves may be sent to a diagnostic lab or you may purchase simple test kits that are used in-house (www.agdia.com).
